One-Touch Open Sun/Moon Roof - Modification Instructions
EDIT: Please check post #34 of this thread before proceeding.
Below is a detailed info how to do a 1-Touch Open Moonroof modification. Please also check post #32 of this thread for an even better solution.
1) Obtain a DEI 528T Pulse Timer Realy. This link shows you can get it for $15: 528T
2) Obtain 2 SPDT Relays (any auto electronics store should have it).
3) Obtain 1 Diode (1 or 2 Amp) - Radio Shack carries them.
4) Wire it according to the diagram below.
5) Adjust the time delay on the D528T Relay to about 5 sec. - the length of time it takes to fully open the moonroof.

Hate to sound like a total idiot, but what will this actually give us?
Is it like the driver's side window type of one-touch open, or is it going to always be all-open, and then we use the close button to adjust to the actual amount of "open" we want?

Some people were asking for a long time about making the sunroof switch 1-touch so they don't have to hold it to open the roof all the way, but they would press the switch once and the roof would automatically open all the way. I wrote some guided instructions on how to do it in a separate post, but I never gave detailed instructions until now. I never saw a need for this mod myself, so I didn't look into it. I knew there was a special timed relay needed from DEI, but I've never seen it. Until now, when yesterday someone asked me for help again and sent me detailed info on that Pulse Relay. Now that I know what that relay requires, I was able to do the specific diagram and instructions for everyone who's too lazy to hold the switch to open the roof - only kidding.
As to the other question, you adjust the relay to the amount of seconds you want it to work, and once you touch the Open part of the OEM switch, the relay will hold the signal to the roof to continue opening for the amount of seconds you set it to. So if you set the relay to 5 sec. I believe the roof will open all the way. But if you set it only to 1 sec. it will only open a little.
As for the analogy to the driver's side window one-touch open funtion - No, it doesn't work the same. When you do 1-touch open of the driver's window you can stop it at any time by pressing the Up button.
Well, with this 1-touch open roof it doesn't work like that. The relay continues to send the signal for the amount of seconds you set it to, and pressing Close ot Tilt buttons will not stop that process.

no prob, Eric, here are the answers:
1) The new relay does not replace anything. It's simply added into the wiring and should be mounted somewhere under the dashboard. You still use the OEM switch to open, close, tilt the roof. The OEM switch simply triggers the relay, and the relay controls the opening action.
2) A separate relay is needed for every action, so if you want 1-touch open and 1-touch close, you'd need 2 relays and more connections made.
3) 1-touch means just that - 1 touch to perform the action. If you set the relay for the amount of seconds it takes to open the roof fully, then it will always open fully after you touch the OEM switch once to open it. If you then want to close it half way, you can hold the Close button on the OEM switch. But if you make it 1-touch Close, also, then you can't stop it at will. You can adjust your relays for shorter times, so it would open the roof less, or close the roof less (if you really want 1-touch for open and 1-touch for close)

Edited the initial diagram. Added 2 more SPDT relays and 1 diode to fail-safe against using Close and Tilt buttons on the OEM roof switch while the moonroof is automatically opening. It's now a little more complex, but if someone accidentally presses the Close or Tilt buttons while the roof is opening, it won't blow the motor.

already ordered the pulse timer relay. Im not too lazy too hold the switch, its adds to the luxury feel of the car. 2005 Grand Cherokee has one touch open, close, and tilt. I wonder how that would be to wire up

Just a little more complex to wire. You'd need 3 Timer relays, 3 SPDT relays and several diodes. But then you'd never be able to adjust the opening manually. It would always open and close to the pre-programmed position.
Is it really worth spending all the money and time to do it just for that "luxury feel"? I admit, opening or closing with this switch located behind the steering wheel is occasionally distracting. I'd be better if we could relocate the switch to the roof - easier to reach. But all in all, I still don't mind holding the switch to do all that.

OK, I know I'm just being a pain in the arse now for asking this, but I can't help it...
How hard would it be to knock out one of the the switch panels beside the moonroof switch, and install another switch that would provide the one-touch functionality?
This is what I'm sort of envisioning...
You have the one-touch switch for all three (probably have to buy it from Acura) on one side, and then the standard switch on the other side. Then you can press the one-touch one to get things going, and then, like the driver's side window, press one of the standard buttons to stop the one-touch motion and control the moon roof normally.
Dunno if this made any sense at all, but it's too early, my head still hurts, and I need to get to work.

You're talking about a switch that would provide the same functionality as 3 of the 528T relays put together. You find a switch that would do it, and I'll tell you how to wire it. But I've never heard of such switch. You'd have to dig through different vehicles that have that functionality, but most of them probably connect to the computer to send a timed signal, so it would't help.
