Question Time for battery change?

Hi, sorry if this is in the wrong forum, but i was thinking battery is part of the engine so i posted here. I just want to know when should i replace my battery. TSX stock battery is not the best out there when comes to capacity wise. And lately when i turn on too much electronic gadgets the Nav will malfunction and not able to acquire gps signal. Also battery dies if i listen to music for like 30mins or so.
I also have harder timme starting, unlike when it is new, it will start just 1 crank, now i have to crank it longer.

btw, my car is at 65k miles and it is 2004/nav

It could also be RF interference affecting your GPS receiver if you have a lot of extra gadgets that use RF...

Yes, get a dry cell type battery if you want an upgrade. Optima is a good selection basis.

I agree, the Stock battery is one of the TSX's weak points...

haha...Sorry, I was laughing at your first statement about wondering if this was the right forum to post your inquiry...hehe I hope my previous "forum police" posts didn't scare you! hahahahahaa

So, is 65k around the time we should start thinking about changing our battery or does it depend?

Your battery is dying because you have run your battery flat previously. Change it and get a deep discharge battery like an Optima Yellowtop or an odyssey.

Just a note on the optima...there is no battery out for the TSX from optima. Closest you'll come is a red top 51R (i believe) but you'll have to modifiy the battery tray for it to fit. They stopped selling the yellow top because of defects causing it to lose power (i thinkt hat was the reason).

Make sure you have the codes for your Navi and Radio before disconnecting the old battery. I think you need to change you battery ASAP. The old battery has given you plenty of warning signs to replace. If you wait, make sure you have a cell phone to car for road side assistance.

Not really. Some will last wayyy more than that. If you want to change your battery really, its not that expensive, you can do it at any time. Some wont need to do it the whole life of the car, some may need to do it at 50k miles, just depends on usage. If you leave the radio on a lot while parked, or have an aftermarket stereo installed (amp/sub) your battery life will be considerably lower than someone that just has a regular usage.

You usually get 3-5 years from a regular size battery (+5 years was always my avg with my other Hondas). The TSX has a smallish battery for a car this size. It would seem this type of battery would fall more into the 3-4 year range. If you have any doubts about your battery, change it out before the freezing temps of winter set in. That is when you find out how much power your battery has because a vehicle is a lot harder to start and needs more power below freezing.

Also batteries hate being dirty (moisture/oil/corrosion around terminals), loose connections, extreme temps (below freezing and +100 degrees) and being 100% drained of power. If you ever drain your battery, just replace it because it will never recharge back to the same level again.

anyway.......are there any upside to change to redtop or yellow top? for regular user...
since I am not running anything extra....I am thinking if it dies again i'll just go to walmart to buy that 50dollars battery.....

odd, Acura replaced my battery for me once...

Well anyway Id say the factory battery sucks as it is, so its really not a bad idea even if your not running any toys to switch to a better one
