How often do you replace your stock airfilter?

The manual indicates replacing the airfilter at 48,000km or 30,000 miles. That seems excessive for me. For $20.00 a year, replacing the old filter with a brand new OEM airfilter seems worth the cost.

Do you think it's worth getting the drop-in KNfilter, just because it lasts longer, up to 50,000 miles without any cleaning?

I think it depends on how long you are going to keep your ride. I purchased a K/N air filter for my TSX (around $35) because I will keep my car +7 years. I have a K/N in my 97 Accord for over +5 years and it works great.

You still need to clean the K/N filter at least once a year. I haven't had a need to clean the TSX filter yet; but, I clean the Accord K/N twice a year with the solvent/oil kit from K/N. The cleaning kit will last 3 or 4 years depending on your driving habits. It only takes 20-30 mins total start/finish time to clean the filter (spray solvent/let set/warm water rinse/dry/re-oil/set/re-oil). Just remember not to over oil the filter and let the filter air dry (no compressed air or swinging in the air by arm, might damage cotton filter element).

Changing the air filter every 30,000 miles seems waaaay too long to me, especially living in New Mexico with our dusty/sandy driving conditions. I also wipe down the inside of the air box to remove any trash/twigs/sand/bugs/dirt.

I replaced my filter at 30,000 mi...hehe Talk about GRIMEY! So, if there is a product that allows you to prolong the filtering process, what kind should I get?! It costs a bit much just to change a filter when you can just easily do it yourself! hehe And I don't want to have to replace it every 30,000 mi.

To see what it looks like, you can check out:

http://www.knfilters.com/search/appsearch.aspx

Just enter the:
Year:2005
Make: Acura
Model:TSX

This site is about $55-$60 for the filter. I got mine for eBay for about $35:

Search on eBay with: K/N 33-2276
Or
Search on eBay with: k&n air filter recharger kit

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/04-06...spagenameZWD1V

You can use the same key words to search on Yahoo or Google, you might find the same product cheaper or free shipping to your area. The K/N filter is the same one used for the Honda 2.4L Accord. If you purchase the filter now, you won’t need the cleaning/re-oil recharger kit until next year or longer. Make sure the kit comes with the aerosol spray bottle to re-oil the filter. With proper care, the K/N will last you 1 million miles, I’m already at +90,000 with my 97 Accord.

K&N's got a million mile warranty...so basically its the only filter the car will ever need....or if your next car has the same size drop in, you can put it in there.

If you keep the car over, about, 70k miles, it would be more cost effective to get the K&N. Really isnt a hp difference though.

On the contrary, I would veer away from K&N style filters if you plan on keeping you car for a long time. The stock paper filters are going to do the best job of keeping dirt out of your engine. It even says not to use anything but paper filters if you look at the airbox of a cummins diesel pickup or any semi-tractor.

I would just check it every 12 months and replace if necessary.

I think it is because there is a bigger potential for problems with a K/N style compared to OEM or paper style. You just install and forget about it for 30,000 miles with the OEM filters. The K/N require yearly maint and if you go too long without cleaning, damage the filter element in any way or oil it too much can cause more problems in the long run.

I think as long as you take the proper care, you will not have any problems. K/N will not last 30,000 miles without cleaning.
