Auto tranny - oil change interval

Hey guys,

as I've put in subject I wonder how frequent do you recommend to change oil in auto tranny if you want to be on a (very) sure side nothing will go wrong. The car is Honda Euro Accord 2.4 (2004).

Thanks

I think your owner's manual has a schedule set up for different driving conditions. I would check that schedule and follow the "severe" conditions if you are concerned.

Even that's way too much.

On my Accord V6, I changed the oil at around 90k. Make sure you do a full system flush to get all the old oil from the pipes out of the system. It may cost a lilttle bit more, but it's worth it. Expect to pay around $120ish.

i know, it's a bit excessive, like changing full synthec oil every 3k miles, (and a lot of fools do that)
but OP wants to "be on a (very) sure side nothing will go wrong"
so I recommend something which I don't think is ridiculously difficult or unreasonable.

Not sure if your "full system flush" means "power flush" but anyway just keep this in mind........

HONDA DOES NOT RECOMMEND POWER FLUSHING THE TRANNY !!!!!

The places I've been to just hook up the tranny oil lines to a machine that cycles old oil and replaces it with new oil. As far as if they use a filter or not I'm not sure, but the tranny has its own oil filter anyway.

If you do not want to "flush" the system, you can change the oil 3-4 times repeatedly while driving the car in 5 min intervals in between changes. The purpose of changing the tranny oil several times is to get rid of all the oils trapped in the oil lines.

Here's an important thing to remember, by the time you have to change your transmission oil, you'll most likely be out of warranty anyway. (The recommended interval is waaayy after your warranty should expire). So don't worry about flushing your system.

Reason I'm asking is my service book says first change of tranny oil should be at 120k kilometers (~75k miles) or in rough conditions on every 60k kilometers (~37k miles). Comparing these two intervals I'm sure I belong to 120k group since I make around 70 kilometers (~45 miles) per day more or less in 5th gear at 80 km/h (50 miles/hour).

However I'd also like to make sure oil wouldn't be the problem in case of transmission failure so I checked on this forum and saw some guys recommend changing oil every 15k (I think it was in miles) if driving hard or 35k (miles) if driving like a granny.

I got scared and I booked a service just to change tranny oil About oil chaning procedure I was told to first get rid off old oil get a new one in (about 3,5 liters) take the car for a spin (it's enough to fully warm up the engine) and repeat procedure once again.

On Thursday I have booked for oil change. Robert so do you think it's OK if I first get old oil out, put the new one in, take the car for a spin, and then again get oil out and refill again?
