Ice Box v.s. Stock on 06/07

So I did a couple of searches and I couldnt really find anything that really answered my question.

As most of us know, the 06/07's have an upgraded intake/exhaust and thats what accounts for the extra 5 hp from the 04/05 models. My question is I look at the stock intake and I look at the comptech intake and they look exactly the same. Even the diameter of the piping looks the same. I personally see no benefit to having a C.I.B. on my car since (I have an 06) the intake is already upgraded. I could however see the benefit for the 04 and 05 models. Any feedback would be great and if this has already been covered like a million times slap me with one of these and point me in the right direction.

Thanks

They upgraded the intake size that leads into the throttle body i believe BUT, the resonator box and restrictive lid are still there. Honestly, if you want to do a completely nice FREE mod with the intake and get VERY close to the icebox, simple take out the resonator box, cut part of it off with a saw and put it back up into the bottom of the air box. Then take off the lid and using a dremal, grind down the ridges inside the stock top portion of the air box. Then if you want to, go out and get a K&N drop in filter and some weatherstripping for a tight seal (it doesn't fit perfectly) and presto, you will have a $20 icebox that preforms almost identical to the the real thing. There is a guy who did this in the other forum and did a huge write with pics and such. I had the icebox lid left over from when trading in my old 04 TSX but didn't take out the inlet tube, but you can make your own. If you need pics let me know and i'll get them next time i take off the bumper, which i will be doing soon do a custom lower grille i'm working on. AND, if you take out or cut holes in the little plastic pieces next to the fog lights, the air will rush into the intake much faster. From the setup that i have now, you can def feel a little more pull than it did before!!!

yeah, the icebox is kinda overpriced for what it is. if you're really handy and can do what jwood mentioned (dremel out the box ribbings, etc...), you can even buy a cheapo pvc inlet tube from home depot, clamps, or what not and put one together yourself. you don't even really need an inlet pipe.

but if you just want the name, less hassle, and are willing to pay, the icebox is a decent mod. i put one in my car a few months ago. don't expect any huge HP gains. it's just better air flow (no resonator, less crap for air to travel through) and it helps throttle response, revs a little harder and louder, and maybe adds just a little punch. there is really minimal loss of low-end torque, but it's probably a lot less than a true CAI since it's close to stock.

Sounds good thanks guys so basically the resonator or the lack thereof in the icebox is really the only difference from stock...thanks guys

well, not exactly. the comptech airbox has more volume. and it there's no restrictions inside. if you open your OEM air box, you'll see these ribs that run along the edges and top as some sort of support. theoretically, this would probably slow the airflow down.

from what i've read, if you run resonator-less, you tend to feel a little more vibration from the car. but once you install the ice box and bolt down the inlet pipe, the shaking isn't so bad.

i actually just did this 2 days ago. i took apart the front bumper to install hid foglights on my 07 tsx and i noticed that there was a huge restrictive resonator box. so, i took it out, bought some cheapo piping from pep boys for $20 and clamped it to where the plastic intake duct is. i cut the intake duct for holes and now i am getting a lot of breathing. next step for me is to purchase a spoon air filter maybe and then cut the inner part of the upper air box.

Yea, i agree with John. I originally just took out the resonator box and i actually did get some vibration. I then installed the top icebox lid with less restrictions and the vibration decreased but didn't go away. I then took off the bumper again and customized my inlet tube and this actually got rid of 95%-97% of the vibration. So, i wouldn't just leave the rubber connection hose all alone plus, you are more prone to heatsoak too!!

hmm...interesting...I think I may just get a cib because I dont know how down I am to start chopping up my factory intake, although that does sound like a clever solution. Thanks for the feedback!

np....your only chopping up the resonator box so if the dealer were to ever look in the engine bay, it wouldn't look like anything changed at all because its on the inside of the air box lid, and below the bottom of the air box. If they look at mine they will just see the comptech icebox lid which is pretty much the same thing....my dealership has already said they didn't care at all. I honestly think that they hardly get any engine problems back form TSX's and don't care what you do to them. They even told me that the aspec suspension would still fall under the full 4 yr/50k mile warranty cause of their confidence level.

jwood: did you put your carb emissions sticker for your icebox on the actual box or somewhere in the engine bay? or will you just have it on hand when you get your car inspected?

John: My neighbor is my goto guy for little things like inspection and brakes if i don't do them myself, and he didn't even notice....lol. I don't even have the sticker anymore since it was in the glove box on the old car. I would just how if they ask for it but they prob won't even ask, depending on where you got it done at.
