Got ticket for Injen Intake, Need Help.
I got a ticket yesterday, the cop said when I accelerated, it sounded like I had a highly modified exhaust. He made me open the hood and bitched that the injen intake had no carb exhaust. He also cited me on the exhaust, he wants me to get it tested with a sound meter. Will injen get the california exempt tag anytime soon. Until then I was thinking about putting a K&N CAI typhoon in my car since it is carb exempt and legal in california.
He said that it's not a fix it ticket, but a violation. He stated i'm not allowed to drive my vehicle unless it's to a body shop to get the part's fixed or to their test centers, if I get pulled over, they will impound my vehicle.
What pisses me off is I didn't even punch it, I was driving normal, he wrote on the ticket I was going 35mph, which was true, it was a 40mph zone. Plus my tanabe medallion exhaust is really quite, like stock in normal driving, only when I punch it it will roar, I think he just pulled me over cause he is jealous of my car.
What should I do? Swap intakes, get the tag from injen???

I'm not an expert, but if he says that you have a highluy modified exhaust, should he be looking at the back/rear of the car where the exhaust is? I'm not sure, but I think there was a law saying that if an officer gets a warrant to search a house for guns, he can't cite the guy for possessing MJ.
I think you should just put back on the stock airbox for now and get it tested. hopefully injen will come out with the sticker soon enough. If you really want to fight the ticket, you can ask him on what grounds does he become an expert on every car engine in the world and how he know it's not stock.
Next time, just don't let him see inside. POLITELY say that you're in a hurry to an important meeting and since you're not even speeding, he should let you go. If he's being an asshole, tell him to come back once he gets a warrant.

He was a complete dick...i've been eyed a few times since I have huge wheels, cf hood, trunk and spoiler. I wasn't speeding, he kept calling the "intake" the exhuast, which I had to correct him a few times but he kept saying it. He said the car soulded too loud. I told him i was driving normal and my tanabe exhaust sounds like stock unless I punch it (so I knew he was lying) he was just a complete dick. I was in Folsom, CA going to pick up my stock cat to swap back and take our my defective RT cat so I can send it back to RT. He looked through the engine and said "I Don't see a cat in there" so i'm going to cite you for that, I was like how the **** are you supposed to see the cat from the engine dumbass, that's the flex pipe, cat is connected after that, he said the car was too low for him to go under and look.
My ticket says, check "intake, cat & exhaust" customer is running highly modified car without proper carb exemption tags. Umm I showed him the RT cat paper they provide that they tell you to put in the glovebox, he said he didn't give a shit. This guy was a complete ahole, didn't care. So now I have to go and get my car tested, parts looked at. Do I have to pay for that shit?

If you've the necessary documentation and so forth, then I'd take this up with his CO at the precinct since it's obvious he shouldn't be on Highway Patrol since he'd have difficulty in finding his arse with both hands and a mirror.
It's knobends like this that makes your respect for them wane very rapidly.

All in all the Injen CAI is not Carb Legal in CA. And like Injen has been putting it since they released there damn CAI for our cars it's been pending. So that being said you can put a Intake with the the stamp on it or just put your stock one back on. As for your exhaust, you should be good with your documentation... GOODLUCK with all of that . Dealing with these minor BULLISH tickets is a pain in the arse, waist of time, and headache all in 1.

I wonder if you can cover up the injen intake with a cover that looks like the stock intake box. That way, no heatsoak and it looks like stock.

damn thats insane. but i guess from what you say your car is modified a lot on the outside so cops always will go after that. still though, that really is unfortunate. im running an injen intake and dc sports exhaust, and its loud. have yet to be pulled over so i guess its all luck.
