Has anyone tried Pure Power filters on their cars?
I found this web site on lifetime oil filters that is 90% more efficient than conventional filters. My question is has anyone tried them yet or is it compatiable with our cars. My main concern is the the rubber seal, I know it's washable with brake cleaner or soapy water. It's just interesting to see a filter constructed of woven metal. Better gas mileage?
Here is a link Pure Power

Well, the main idea is paper vs. steel and better flow + protection. Just wanted to see if someone tried it yet. There is a video on the main web page that explains their product also. I guess I will contact them and see if they have one for our vehicle and rate the product when I order it.

At 20x the cost of an OEM or HAMP filter for the TSX, it's hard to see how that one can justify itself.
A good fully synth oil/filter regime every 6-10K miles with periodic additives to remove any sludge/varnish build-up will have as much the same effect on the engine than using that filter alone - besides which, you'd still need to do even with the PurePower in place.
If it was $50-75 then I'm sure there'd be a few who'd give it a whirl, even with the extra hassle of cleaning the filter out.
Then there's the owners who simply drop the car off at the dealer's to do the change for them - you can be sure a dealer isn't going to have his techs faff around with cleaning the filter - at least not without charging extra for their time spent doing it and the chemicals used to clean the filter with.
Nice idea in theory, and I'd love to support them, but it just isn't conducive to do so.

Just spent 40 mins talking on the phone with the owner - damn!
Such a refreshing breath of fresh air talking with someone who can explain things technically but simply.
Suffice it to say, yet again, I'm changing my opinion of them.
They've already fought off 9 patent infringements, told K&N they'll only private label so long as "by Pure Power" is included on the label - K&N have yet to agree on that element of the contract!
It's been approved by the FAA (FCA? - aviation), and they do a lot of oil for Honda race teams, and Uncle Sam.
Independent reports/test showed that bikes made between 5-10 hp at the wheel, and 2 on a couple of cars, just from changing to their filter.
My point above regarding dealer oil changes still stands, but for those who do their own, then I'd seriously suggest you consider going for it. Granted $200 isn't to sneezed at, but since all other filters don't flow oil through the material, but over/around it, then most of the debris is being re-circulated.
Yes, the price is a hurdle, when you're used to $8-10 once or twice a year (depending on mileage), but I'm convinced.
BTW, there's a finned version, no extra cost, which will reduce the oil temp even further, and it already drops it by 20 odd degrees (Fahrenheit I presume).

I ordered mine today, hope it arrives soon. If I could afford I wish I bought two, so when I do the change the other can be cleaned and dried. The first oil change after the install will be 4000 miles because I read somewhere it will catch alot of debris and after that the filter can last 12000 miles. The performance also convinced me, but imagine if I had turbo or a supercharger there would be better gains.
Email I received from them:
"We have sold many Pure Power! Oil Filters to Acura owners. It is Pure
Power! part #8415-BP Thread: 20 X 1.5.
Pure Power! Filters have been in the Winner's Circle in every major Racing
venue on land, sea and air including NASCAR, NHRA (Pro Stock car and
motorcycle), IHRA, ABPA, etc. They have won major awards for design,
innovation and performance. Pure Power! Motor Oil and Filters have been
used in commercial and government fleets for years including Police
Motorcycles.
We fit over 25,000 applications with our Spin-on Direct Replacement Pure
Power! Lifetime Oil Filters and are presently being used in Foreign,
domestic, gasoline, diesel, bio-diesel, autos, trucks, marine, motorcycles,
farm, mining and military equipment, even piston engine aircraft (we are the
ONLY cleanable oil filter to pass F.A.A. testing). It has been quite a task
to get all of these applications into a data base. We just completed our
data base and will be integrating it into our website over the next couple
of weeks for all of these applications. For now, just accept the default #
of 8400. As you proceed with your purchase you will be prompted to fill in
the year, make, model, engine etc of your vehicle. This is what we use to
fit your application."

Excellent. That'll be two of us on here then.
As I said, Kelly and I could've (if I'd wanted to) talked longer, but felt I'd taken up enough of his time as it was.
I'm hoping to get some definitive info on oils and filters from them to put forward as a sticky.
That way everyone can read it and learn the facts from the urban myths (myself included) and know what to look out for when choosing a new oil for themselves.
What I found interesting was that they had to ASK the API for permission to put on their labels, the oil's PH value! Now, you'd think all oils are alkaline so as the acidic compounds created by fuel combustion would negate them and thus the oils becomes neutral or acidic when it's time for replacing - nothing could be farther from the truth.
In fact, they estimate a number of oils are as low as 2-3, which is very acidic to start with.
I certainly had my eyes opened, and learned quite a bit more than I had bargained for.
I believe if he could put a video talking about the myths and truths behind oils, inc. pure synthetics, it'd be the most clicked link here, and there'd be mass of converts as a result.

I'll update with pictures once I receive the filter. They didn't have any 5w30 so I didn't order any oil from them and I'm not too sure about oil campatibilty because from expreiance the transmission only take ATF-Z1 and anything else can damage the tranny so I stay away from the unfamiliar territory. I am convinced though of the filter performance. Well be the first two guinee pigs.

Their oil is (if Kelly is to be believed in what he said to me) too well used by racing teams, inc Honda factory, and they proudly put the fact theirs is alkaline on the label, with the PH level (11 or 13, IIRC) that there's probably less of a risk using theirs than Royal Purple, for example.
10w-30 would probably be more than good enough - interesting reading here. Read the sidebar Q&A (on the left)
As for tranny fluid - I'm sure their ATF is perfectly fine. I'd send them a message asking if it is. I'd almost bet the answer is yes.

To be honest, I don't think our cars would show any appreciable difference.
When you're in the 300+ range, then more power is easily identifiable.
What we should see, if we fitted the kit necessary, is a decrease in oil temp and an increase in oil pressure.
Given some filters can make oil pressure at VTEC a marginal call, this one should provide more oil at that rev range, which is more important when you go there, than tootling about with 2-3K on the counter.
I'd like to have the desire to add gauges and the oil temp/pressure adapter, but it's where do you put them without making the interior look like The Fast And The Furious/Max Power.
If the Navi unit acted a bit like the display on the Nissan Skyline R34, then all that data would be a fingertip away, or if Honda had've done the MID from day one in 2002/3, along with the necessary plumbing, etc.

If can self control the Air/Fuel ratio, along w/ oil supply in every rpm range, then I will see a huge benefit of this power filters. At the end, every component needs K-Pro....
Anyways, good luck w/ the filter and post comment on it.

According to instruction I should inspect the stainless steel filter element at about 500-1000 miles for lint and debris. If filter is clean you can extend your filter service interval to every other oil change. If your filter shows more than 20 pieces of debris, clean, reinstall and inspect again at 500-1000 miles.
And no break cleans to clean the oring(removable).
i have to wait until my wife gets home from work to install.
