Hard start?
you know the noise your car makes when turning the key to turn on ur engine. it makes it a few times until the engine finally purrs and turns on. well i was wondering what is considered normal for my 04 tsx auto because i used to have a 02 maxima and when i held the key to start it i wudnt have to hold the key for more than 2 seconds before it starts and i wudnt really hear the engine choking too much to startup. with my car, if its left sitting for 8-10 hours i sometimes have to hold the key for about 2.5 seconds before it kicks in and starts and u hear it choking to startup about times. is this normal? thanks...

There is another thread on this topic, but I can't seem to find it. I also experience the same thing, but have never found a solution. Its so rare, I don't even worry about it.
DPesso, if you mean that your starter is turning slower, then go to a local auto parts store and have them check your battery. If it is the stock one, then its probably shot. They tend to go bad.

Here's a tip... stop at II for a second or two before moving onto III. The fuel pump is pressurizing the lines and fuel rail during this time... don't spend enough time there, and the pump is still trying to pressurize while you're tring to start.

It happens to me too sometimes and I use a Optima Redtop 35 battery. I find that a bottle of fuel injector cleaners will help, though.

It'll do that because (if i can recall) acura has built in a mechanism to help reduce harmful emissions when starting up the car. Hence why it seems it's not turning over.

Okay I have a very similar situation. Also coming from the same car (03 max 6spd) and that car started pretty much instantly. The day i picked up my car from the dealer I noticed the lag when it started..I felt that it was a weak battery. I had them test it before I picked up the car but it passed as 'good battery.' I let the problem go for a couple of weeks, but it was always bugging me. The day I was heading driving out of town in my car, I drove up to partsource at like 8am to have my battery tested just incase. Again, it passed. I began to convince myself that it was just the fact that its a different car and not having driven a 4cyl in quite some time, thought that it was due to the smaller engine. About 30minutes after leaving partsource I drove back to my house just to put some last minute things in the car. I left the car in the driveway for about 10minutes, came back ready to leave, and just as my luck had it, no start. I got pissed off, knew it was the battery and got a quick boost and drove to the dealership. Again the dealership tested the battery and it passed. This time I refused to let it go and asked him to test it again, so they turned off the car, ran the headlights and stereo for like 5minutes and retested. the battery finally failed.
To summarize, my battery was the main issue, the car starts much better now, but it's still not exactly like the max. You may not have the problem I had at all, and its quite possible i've just gotten my car to start as yours does now. Before, the way the car started was really suspicious.

Mine does this as well, even with a brand new Optima Red Top. I really hated it, but now I've just learned to deal with it.
