Installing a Fujita CAI
I wanted to DIY this install. Not exactly sure when or how I'm going to do it. I read the walkthrough put together on this site, and it has instructions. But how long will this really take me if I've never messed around under a hood of a car before (granted I am a technician, just not for cars...)? And do I really have to take the front wheel off and jack the car up? I might just pay a garage to put it in for me.

You will have to jack up the car and remove the left front wheel, and I think the front bumper, in order to remove the stock inlet resonator chamber.
It's really not too complicated. I tend to screw everything up, but I think I could do it.
If you do remove the front bumper, just take care in removing the plastic body clips. They break easily (not really made to be removed and replaced more than once I think) and cost $2.92 each.
Good luck (aww come one, give it a shot!)

I checked with the garage, and they charge $85 bucks to install it...
I asked one of my good internet buddies who has an RX-7 if he thought it was not too difficult for me. And he said to do it myself...

That's pretty cheap. But I agree with your friend...and you can buy another mod with the $85 you saved.

Do it yourself. You will have a certain feeling of satisfaction and you can revert it back to stock if you ever need to.

Good point. I hope I don't break the clips on the bumper...

I installed my Injen CAI a couple years ago and it was my first under-hood installation work on any car. It took me around 3 hours. It wasn't too difficult to figure out what to do, it was just time consuming because I was being extra careful and triple-checking everything I did.

i'm not even sure if you have to remove your bumper since you have an 04-05. taking the driver side wheel off might be sufficient. I think I read somewhere that us 06+ guys had to remove our bumper bc one of the bolts is located in a really difficult area.

I did not remove my bumper on my 04. I did it through the wheel-well. It also helped that I do not have foglights, so I was able to reach in through the driver's side fog hole to reach the "bitch bolt" as it's called.

Yep, you can probably reach everything without removing the bumper, but since the OP is new at installing, it might help to have more space to work and to see things.
I like the name of the "bitch bolt"

i agree, if you can do it yourself and set yourself a few hrs, def give it a shot and try doing it yourself. its a rewarding experience. i remember when i first put in an intake on my own when i thought i needed help, but doing the work yourself just gives you that satisfaction

This a plastic "vent" where the foglights should go, can you just pop that out to reach your hand in there?
Obviously I would try reaching the "bitch bolt" through there first vice taking off the entire bumper.
I might give it a shot this weekend.
Going to also DIY my auxiliary adapter.

I highly recommend taking the front bumper off to accomplish this task. Removing the OEM intake resonator box will require about a 8" - 10" space to pull it out. You shouldn't need to remove the entire bumper just the driver side (be sure to remove the plastic clamps with a small flat head screwdriver). Believe me having the extra room to move around is well worth it and detaching nreatching the front bumper is a fairly easy task.

I say just do it right and make it easy for you. I just installed Injen CAI and i had no idea how to do it... Taking off the entire bumper is def alot easier. Just gives you more room to try to get those bolts off.

+1 on removing the bumper cover. Try to get another person to help you remove and install the bumper cover - makes it much easier. Then maybe your next mod can be HID fogs.
I think you're going to get addicted to modding.
