New exhaust smell and sounds - Apexi WS2
Hey guys. I just picked up an Apexi WS2 at the Apexi Garage sale and my car sounds a bit louder than I would have expected from what i've heard about on the forums. I also have a pretty terrible bad small coming from it. I've only driven it about 6 miles max, but I was wondering, is this normal?
Not only do I have a bad smell, but I can visually see a decent amount of smoke coming from the exhaust. I should have waited to do my install until later because I am driving to vegas this weekend, but can anybody who's bought a new exhaust tell me whether or not this is normal?
Thanks in advance!

nope... not normal. maybe a loose gasket or it might be melting your rear lip?? idk. look at everything carefully, but there shouldnt be any smell and i'm not sure what you're talking about with the sound/noise...

Many other message boards have said that this is normal and will often disappear after a bit of time as any remaining residue from production might burn off. Any ideas?
Oh I also used a little bit of WD40 to help get the hangers on, maybe that's burning and causing strange smells?

When I put a WS2 on my 94 Accord, I noticed a smell too but it goes away in a few days.

I don't think that there are any exhaust leaks. I don't hear any hissing and the exhaust note isn't raspy from what i can tell. I haven't really gunned it to hard yet so I can't say that i've thoroughly tested it.

Its just the metal heating up its like if you get a new car it smells like crap the first couple weeks since everything really melting and heating up.
Think of it as plastic or some residue getting burned away. report back if its not going after a week of two driving.

Yep, that is normal. Driving it on a trip will actually make the smell/smoke go away quicker. Every exhaust I've ever had does this for a few days.

Too bad the sale is over, but i bought it for $380 OTD. Originally 400 plus tax, but me and another TSXClub-er went and brought it down to 350+tax.
I went out for a drive and the smell isn't as strong as the last time. I'm gonna drive it again later, but I feel like this exhaust is a lot louder than i remember hearing it before. Under load it's decently load at 2-3k RPM. I hope it magically gets quieter after "breaking in"
If it doesn't get quieter, I might have to let this go. We'll see. haahah

whatever

the excessive smoke is probably the ECU has not yet adjusted the A/F ratio and havent get used to the "free-er" flowing exhuast hahahaha.
but ya, its new, give it some time to heat the metals up.
