Changing Engine Air Filter
Hi guys,
I've a question about changing the engine air filter. I took out the 4 screws on the intake cover, but I wasn't able to slide the top cover out since it's attached to the tubing that goes to the intake manifold. How do I disconnect that tube from the intake cover? Or did you have to take the tube with the intake cover off together?
Sorry if this is a noob question, but my 1.6EL before was nothing like this and the intake cover slid off the intake tubing pretty easily. Thanks for any tips.
I've looked at the CAI/SRI pictures in the DIY, but those don't show me how to do this. So pictures of how to do this would be much appreciated!

You can get the filter out and slide a new one in without taking the tube off and just lifting the plastic box while its still connected. Or if you want to take it off completely, just take a flathead screwdriver and push the rubber tube off.

I tried to pull that tubing off the intake lid, but it just wouldn't budge. Is there some release mechanism?
I noticed there is this silver ring thing around the tubing, which I guess might be acting like a rubber band to hold the tubing and the mouth of the intake lid together in place. Do I need to take that off somehow?

You shouldn't have to remove that silver ring. I just replaced my filter last week and I just lifted the box and slid the filter in without taking off the rubber hose.
However, when I took the box off to modify it, all I did was take a flat head screw driver and stick it between the rubber hose and plastic box and basically shove the hose off. The plastic box goes about 2 inches into the hose and its on there pretty solid but if you do like I said its easy as hell to get off.

Yeah, I'll give that a try to replace the air filter.
I guess that's the difference in newer cars... the intake tube and the intake box are on much tighter.
Thanks for the info guys.

If you're really inclined to remove the tubing to replace the filter I suppose you can go that route. Easiest way since you removed the screws is just lift up the top while it's still connected to the tubing and everything and you can pull out the air filter to replace it. Once out you then just slide in the new filter, but be sure you know which way to put it in just to be safe.
Takes like 2 mins without removing any of the tubing. When you take out the old filter just note exactly how it is sitting in there when you remove it so you can put in the new one without a problem. It should just slide in there and sit flush and tight. Then place the top on and screw it in, done. Be sure to clean out the inside of the box with a vacuum or something and take out any leaves or anything for a nice clean area for the filter to work in.

the circular spring is very hard to remove without the right tools anyway.
best bet, as mentioned already, is to just slide the new filter in.

HONDATA FTW!

While youre at it, take off the 3" long rubber tube BEFORE the filter. Free up some more airflow, and bypass that restrictive resonator thats in there.
