Question new member got a question

i have 110 000km on a 05 automatic, i just found out we don't have a timing belt but a timing chain. I searched but found some useful information, when would the chain need to be replaced? or serviced?how much is the cost to replace it? is their any signs that indicate a problem with the chain?any advice would be appreciated thank you.

I don't think the timing chain needs to be replaced. I do remember reading that at the first tune up, the chain should be checked for any needed adjustments. Here is a link from the service manual that should explain how it is performed:

I think if you hear the chain making a ticking sound, then an adjustment may be required. This would be something that I would have dealer do, since I'm not brave enough to do it myself!

If you need any other help, let us know.

in one of the other threads someone mentioned that most hondas/acuras made after 2000+ have service free parts or something? i dont remember how it was worded entirely but something about our car parts being service/maintenance free. just change them when needed, like brakes, oil, coolant etc.. anywho, my 04, i traded it in with 185000 km and bought it with 130000km. the whole time i had the car i only changed the oil.
i dont think you would have any problems with that car for a very long time as long as you service it on time and dont 'race' it

The timing chain can stretch and is not visible to the naked eye, until removed and compared with a brand new OEM timing chain.

I have seen a few, all with stock engines, high mileage and also a history of general poor maintenance of insufficient service intervals.

CL9s with over 100,000KMs should have the timing chain inspected especially if you are not the first owner of the car. Replacing it isn't expensive, the part itself isn't expensive. When you don't replace it, excessive wear is increased, loss of engine efficiency consuming more engine oil and petrol, increase noise from engine and above all, loss of power.

The only time this part should be replaced is when it is out of spec or the engine is being rebuilt. So don't worry about it.
