Stock Intake Resonator Removal

I did a search and nothing really answered my question so I'm making this thread.

I'm looking to remove the resonator from our stock intake but I don't have time to remove the whole thing right now. So I'm looking to remove the rubber elbow that connects it then I'll remove the whole resonator when I have time. Does anyone have any idea on how to remove this piece? And does anyone have a DIY on removing the whole resonator for later when I do have time? Thanks!

i've heard from some sources that removing the intake resonator causes you to lose power...but then again it increases sound and some say it adds power. Is the effects of removing the intake resonator different from car to car? What the hell does it do lol

I've removed my Intake Resonator and I have to say performance feels exactly the same. In my opinion, people claiming to gain horse power is just a placebo effect, think about it - a real intake adds maybe 5hp and removing your resonator isn't nearly as efficient; it just increases air flow slightly as well as sound. As far as losing power... I just don't see that as realistic either. Like I said, it adds sound but performance feels the same to me.

I wouldn't even waste your time doing it in two sections, it only took me 20 minutes to remove the whole thing and I left the wheel on. But its your car, so... What rubber elbow? The one that connects the resonator box to the air filter box or the tube that comes off the front of the resonator and goes to the front grille area?

Removing resonator alone wont do anything. U have to give it K&N filter. I and everyone else who did it felt a minor gain. 3-5HP for $40. Cant beat that...

Forgot to mention I threw in a K&N Filter because I had to replace mine anyway. Personally, I dont think you can physically feel 3-5 hp. But to each his own.

Bosch you did it with your wheel on? Did you remove the bumper or anything? And yeah I already put in a K&N drop-in filter if that's what you guys are talking about.

It's really easy. As far as 3-5 hp, idk about all that since I haven't seen any real proof of it but I get increased gas mileage and it is a bit louder when accelerating in the 3k+ rpm range. I removed mine when I put in my HID fogs so did it with the bumper off and it's super easy. Took me about 10 mins total to get it all out. Oh and I left my tires on too.

The two bolts that are shown in the DIY section for the CAI are easier to remove with the bumper off. All you have to do is take off the bumper and two trim clips and it's easy to get to with a mere socket wrench (10mm). Once off you just pull out the big old box and you're done. I also had my hood popped open and removed that piece to help the intake of air in front of the battery. There is one bolt that holds in that tube too but you can take it off from approaching the bottom of the car. Once that bolt is off I just pulled that tubing through the bottom and done. It's really easy and anyone can do it. I mainly did it to see what the big hub bub was about and I do have increased gas mileage. I get about an extra 2-3 mpg according to my MID but when calculating it manually I am seeing about a 1-2 mpg gain depending on my driving, be it city or traffic or highway.

So bumper off but tires on. To me it's a lot easier that way since I used the bumper being off to access the extra tubing in the middle by the battery and I couldn't imagine doing that with the bumper staying on. And yea, installing the HID fogs and removing the resonator was about a 30 min job overall, give or take some lazy break time haha.

Yeah I just turned the wheels all the way left and jacked the car up just a little bit and then unclipped the fender lining, unbolted the 3 bolts on the resonator box and pulled it out - then 1 more bolt on the tube that goes out to the front grille and removed it. I left the bumper on, i didnt even want to begin taking that off unless
I had to... wouldnt be worth it IMO.

And yes, we were referring to the K&N Drop In.

I'm actually kind of scared of taking off the bumper since I never took it off before and I just had the lip kit put on =/ But thanks for the info I think I know what to do now Your tips always work for me

Thanks. I think I'm gonna try this way out. How hard was it getting the bolts off without taking off the bumper?

Whenever you baffle sound you are effecting the airflow. It may not be significant but it does lower some power by having the resonator there. If it didn't then half of performance CAIs would have them too.

Right, I didn't disagree that it added 3-5 or any power. But the power that it adds is low enough that its not something noticeable physically and I doubt there is an intake only dyno, not to mention a resonator delete dyno. They add power, thats a fact, just not something that you are going to feel and go 'damn'.
