The Importance of Intake Temperature

As promised here are the Temperature difference videos. The hot temps video is with a short ram and the temp is about 90 or so. The cold temps video is with a stock airbox ducted to cold air with a k&n drop in with a temp of about 45 or so.

I posted these to illustrate the massive difference intake temperature can make. But keep in mind each engine reacts differently to them. Let me know what you guys think.

All i had done was the diy stock intake, the stock header, full 2.5 custom exhaust, unorthodox crank pulley, f1 stage 3 clutch, and fidanza 8lb flywheel. I ran a 14.3 @ 98 with a terrible, 2.2 60 ft. And thats in the big body accord sedan (its the one in my avatar)... i won many races i should have lost. I have a video of my fastest pass but you cant see the time, the camera went out of focus. If i get the chance i will post it tomorrow.

Thats pretty sick, I wanted to do some stuff similar to that but at the time i was in high school, so the dough was a little on the low. Hytec headers are so bad ass. I sold it after it was jacked and recovered. I know the guy that bought it and have worked on it with him a few times and everytime i do, i want to buy it back.

was your integra a DA or a DC? I absolutely love DAs.

Both videos had an error for me. Server side error.

Could you write an outcome summary for those you can't view or just want to read. Thanks.

Not sure why everyone is getting errors, i successfully used them both last night. Try going to my channel on youtube: "tekk45", they are all posted there. I guess youtube is just doing some retarded maintenance crap again...

On the hot day video i do a run from second gear and it takes about 25-30 seconds to get to speed cut at 118. On days like this i have barely beat a Spec-V SER.

On the cold night video i do a run from a dig, i get a 0-60 in between 5 and 6 seconds and i dont remember exactly how long it takes for me to get to 110 when i get off of it (i am at work and youtube is blocked). On nights like this I have beaten a turbo EG, B16 DC on the bottle, Tons of V8s. I have a video from the 1/4 mile of me beating a modified mustang gt by like 4 or 5 cars, earlier that very same night. This was also the night i ran my personal best.

If someone else can look at it and tell me at what second i get off the gas we can calculate it. I started going between 7 and 8 seconds (i remember that from adding up the 0-60 last night).

The big thing is to watch the speedometer roll and compare them between the two videos if you can see them.

would purchasing a smaller (smaller in terms of width not thickness) radiator to allow more air to flow into the engine bay be a good idea??

In my opinion, i dont think it would produce any noticable difference. considering the radiator produces much less heat than the engine block itself or the header/exhaust. plus the potential of losing dependability is not something i take lightly. Additionally you would have to fabricate mounts, re-route hoses, and if your car is an auto, you would have to work out something else to use as a transmission cooler (inside your stock radiator).

Rather than a smaller radiator i would consider putting a very small spacer on the bolts of the hood brackets. small enough just so it would break the rubber seal at the base of the hood (by the windshield). About a quarter or half of an inch would be barely noticable, but enough to break the seal. It does make a considerable difference. Example: leave your car, on a hot summer day, sitting in the sun for a long time with all the windows closed. then do the same with the sunroof cracked. the temperature will be 15 to 20 degrees cooler that the first. Then throw in the fact that the car will be moving, the increased airflow will make it even cooler. because with hood closed the engine bay is very much sealed against outside air, much like the vortex created in the bed of a truck. but if you give it a way to escape it will be much cooler. not to mention it allows the heat to escape from the hottest area of the engine bay. Making the rest that much cooler.

and that my friends, is my 3 cents.
