Cat upgrade, stay oem?
I really don't wanna deal with CEL coming on. (btw, how to reset if it comes on?)
I drive a '05 tsx, so the cat is very restrictive from searching the forum...
Do you think I can upgrade to '06 or '07 tsx stock cat? So that I will keep the noise down and eliminate the possibility of throwing a CEL?
thanks

he'll be able to tell you if it's worth doing it or not.

If you can pick up a used 06-08 OEM cat, that's a great upgrade from your 04/05 while remaining OEM and not dealing with CEL's. It's a good route to take.

I upgraded to Random Tech cat with defouler. No CEL's in 5 months and I got stock heatshield welded to it, so no harassment from cops. Note that even 06+ owners benefited from aftermarket cats.

to prevent CEL's go to autozone or some other similar auto parts store. in the exhaust section look for a spark plug non fouler. The size you want is 18mm. The part costs 4 dollars at the store closest to me. Before you install the CAT, just screw the non fouler into the oxygen sensor bung.

to reset a cel you need a OBD scantool. I dont own one but the autozone by my house will lend me one.
when i had a cel i went to the store, gave them my license to hold on to and they gave me the scantool. I took it outside to my car and plugged it in. Reset the code myself and then returned the device. Not hard at all.

06+ or Aftermarket cat is a huge difference for the 04-05 models.
I went to a Magnaflow Cat and I noticed a big change. Got a CEL error but I don't really care as long as its not blinking at me.

the 06cat is a direct swap. no CEL's (accompanied by a CT header & greddy sp2). No welding etc required. I can't chime in on the gains since I put it in at the same time as the CT header. but I can say that there was a significant increase in power in both HP and TQ with the CT & 06 cat in.
