Question about superchargers and Autos?

What is it about Automatics that keeps some companys from making kits?
I am new just curious. I dont think I will be in the market for one at the price and just 5 lbs boost.
Is it the same for turbos also?

They make kits for the automatics. Most companies don't make turbo kits for automatics because of the transmission.

There are some members on the forum with Supercharged 5AT cars. You may wish to search for posts by CCColtsIceHockey, TSXDET, and Tsx536 to see their impressions and experiences. I can't think of any other boosted 5AT's off the top of my head.

Generally they don't make kits for automatic transmission because of the fact that the transmission is usually weaker than its manual counterpart. As per 5 lbs of boost I assume your talking about the supercharger, I'm pretty sure you can up the boost with a smaller pulley, just have to make sure your tuned for how much boost you add.

The funny thing is that usually having longer gear ratios (which most automatics do) can take better advantage of boost than the manual (short gear ratio-ed) counter parts. If you could somehow get a Manual that had the gear ratios the automatic has, that would be a better scenario for force induction.

In the american muscle world, u'll even see people switch from manual back to Automatic when they decide to go force induction.

^ Yes, true. But you are talking about 1200hp+ drag cars. That's why they have automatics, purely for drag! As for what our cars can accomplish on the street or on track, it is better to have a manual transmission. I remember a member on here said the exact same words.

However, the only advantage that the AT have is that you are at constant boost at WOT. your boost will never drop. However, you can get something call an anti-lag to keep the turbo spooling at all times. People with Subies run that and same as people in the rally world.

And like many people/members have said. The AT tranny is just overall weaker. Either you don't boost as much, or you have to rebuild the tranny (bulletproof)

The problem with boost and auto tranny is the fact that you need to stay in the high rev range to take advantage of boost. Thats where you need to upgrade the transmission. If you wanna utilize longer gears. Use the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gear from the EP3.
