Benefit
I think the idea behind the Hondata IMG is to keep the IM cooler so the air that traveles thru it to engin to be cooler. Cooler or cold air is denser and burns better wich increases power in the internal combustion engine. In this case you might notice hair HP gain. This is probably going to be one of my last mods before I put my Password JDM carbon fiber IM cover. SO the heat wont destroy the carbon fiber
correct me if I'm wrong

I read alot on this and really don't see a point into doing this. Yes, it cools your engine which theoretically gives u more power. But in our case, the power increase is so little, it's like doing the Mugen/J's Racing/Spoon Fan Switch and Radiator fan

reflash before i die plz
|
i think it's a good mod.
sure, on its own, it might not be a huge gain. but hondata has suggested that to really take advantage of reducing heat soak would be to use the IMG and do the throttle body coolant bypass mod.
like a lot of the mods, on its own, it'll add a little something, but altogether you reap the cumulative effect.
i have both the hondata IMG and the P2R injector base IMG together. no issues or anything since they were installed. i'm pretty happy with it. just make sure you buy some coolant from the dealership before you do the install since you have to bleed it all out.

Bump.
I installed my Hondata IMG with a buddy yesterday after it sat in the closet for a few months. I did throttle body bypass a while ago. That lower bracket bolt was a pain indeed I drove the car home when it was almost 90 degrees outside, popped up the hood and I was able to touch the IM... It was hot, but not nearly as hot as it would get without the gasket. Then I drove the car in the evening when the temperature went down to 70 degrees. The engine seems smoother and the sound was a bit deeper (maybe just me). When it was cooler outside, I felt extra responsiveness and a tiny bit of power and TQ. I drove the car around and popped up the hood again. The IM was warm, but not hot. I am guessing most of the heat is transferred through the bolts. Now I am thinking about installing TB gasket, but since I did TB bypass, is there really a need for it?

It's not that hard to install if u have some confidence and basic tools. It only takes a while because of the amount of bolts and hoses and sensors that are all over the place. Let me know if you need help installing it, bro What intake set-up are u currently running?

Do you have to drain the coolant before doing the IMG?

You can, but I just disconnected the IM and some pured out. It wasnt much though.
I drove the car for 2 hours today, popped up the hood, and IM was barely warm.... It's 58 degrees where I am now and I can DEFINITELY feel a good gain of low/midrange TQ and power. The pedal is veryy sensitive now. It is far less noticeable when the temperature is 80+ degrees...
