just to add to this.......why put a turbo on a stock run-of-the-mill 4banger? atleast get her breathing freely first.

i just feel its not worth the effort. All you can really put on the engine would be a mild turbo, the power gain would be low and the increase in mpg wouldnt be enough for me to justify it. Thats just my opinion, I would put some money into upgrading exhaust, headers, air-intake, and cams before I put a turbo on (would never put an ebay turbo on a newer car, maybe an old beater but not a new one).

You'd be surprised how much more effective a well sized turbo would be. And proper tuning will do away your mpg problems. Its harder to maintain but it is more bang for the buck. I wouldn't personally put an ebay turbo. But I have seen it used. Albeit the cartridge was changed.

ethankz750,
Have you ever turboed a car before? Putting a turbo on a "run of mill 4 banger" is what this sport is all about.
My old d16y8 with a t3/t04e at 10 psi put down 254 whp w/open downpipe. 239whp with a 3 inch exhaust. I never did anything to my "run of the mill" motor but install stronger headstuds.
If you were to open up the breathing of the motor you would be wasting money if you wanted to go turbo in the long run since most of that would have to come out anyways. Unless you change camshafts or do some porting work to the head.
Turboing any car is all the tune. That is the most important part of any turbo set up whether its ebay or greddy. I don't encourage anyone to buy the ebay crap btw.
