K&N Air Filter Vs. CT Air Filter

Hey guys,

A few months ago i got the CT ice box. The very first thing that upset me was that the filter provided doesent really fit to well in the box. I had to wiggle/flex it in there. So i always wanted to swap it with a K&N. So I ordered one and put it in last night.

First. Fitment was PURFECT! Quality seems way better as well.

2nd. The car felt way more responsive, This filter deff allows the car to breath way better. I can for sure feel a gain in every gear especially low end. Not to mention you get some more grunt sound from it to not much louder but more mean sounding. LOVE IT lol.

Overall I think this is one of the best upgrades you can do for the money. 36 bucks from excelerate performance. And the CT filter was almost Black already and is only about 2 months old. not sure if you can clean the ct filter either.

So K&N FTW!!!

uh...the k&n has even MORE wiggle vs. the ct foam filter.

i installed the k&n and added weatherseal to the edge of the airbox lid to ensure a good seal b/c of the extra wiggle room. i recently cleaned it but b/c it didn't dry fast enough, i tried to put the ct foam in and it didn't fit b/c of the weatherseal strip. took it off, and the filter board fit perfectly.

the foam filter is reuseable and ct-e sells a oiling/cleaning kit online that you can purchase.

i'm not knocking the choice to use k&n, but you should be sure that you have a good seal, otherwise you may be letting in a lot more unfiltered air. i'd imagine the benefits between k&n or the foam are marginal at best, so it's just whichever you prefer.

I had to pretty much re-shape the ct filter. I was un able to close the box with out doing so. That was the main reason i bought the K&N. I have no play really in mine fit pretty snug.

But hey just giving my opinion.

Also curious did you purchase the ice box when Comptech still made them or when it changed to just CT engineering. Wonder if older style boxes fit the foam filter better than theese new ones or if anything was changed at all on them. I know the older ones read comptech acrossed the top of the box now there plain. idk if anything else was changed

yeah, there shouldn't be any re-shaping involved. it's the same shape as the underside of the lid or the top of the airbox base. it can only really fit in a certain way (unless someone puts it in upside down).

i bought mine when they were still comptech. from what i understand, the intake should be exactly the same, just minus the logo on the top cover.

I have one of the old Comptech ones and I had the same problem. The stock and K&N filters fit inside the bottom half of the intake box. The foam one that comes with the Ice Box goes on top of the bottom half of the intake box and it's very difficult to screw the lid back on. I switched to K&N as well and I prefer it much more.

if thats the case then ill just buy the k&n filter. i was going to buy the CT icebox but the intake looked really stock. Seems kinda of a waste and finding out that k&n filter has some gains then im sold.
