K&N is an aftermarket filter. Ice box is an aftermarket Intake box. Ice box comes with its own filter but people think the K&N is better. So buy both.

don't need the k&n filter if u get icebox. k&n filter size is designed for the stock box, and it won't fit as nicely in icebox.

it fits fine in mine. better than the foam ct filter
you can buy the icebox and use that filter its perfectly fine. some members like myself have had issues with the fitment in the box but it will work. I just installed the k & N and i deff feal more response and little more sound to it. I like it better than the ct foam filter

There is even a recent thread stating that the K&N fits better than the stock Icebox.

Heh, I don't want to be mean.
But you just had to check the K&N website. Common

Another option if you like to mod things yourself like I do, is this:
An even better DIY Intake!
It looks totally factory & I would bet that it as effective as the Comptech box & superior to any underhood short ram intake...

what is the point of removing the ribs in the air box? Turbulence occurs when air passes through the K&N filter. Those ribs in the air box helps to guide the air in one direction and reduce the turbulence. Without them, air will be bouncing around in the air box creating more turbulence.

The ribs, horns, passages & the huge complex intake resonator are all for noise reduction. Not for air flow.
Removing the intake resonator, smoothing the inside of the air box, should all improve air flow but I'm sure no one has flowed before and after on an air bench nor dyno'd before and after.
All I did when I modified the stock air box was to try to copy the Comptech Icebox.
Likely the real benefits are the K& N filter & the change to where the engine now draws air outside the engine compartment unlike the stock intake.
If you analyze before & after dyno's of the Comptech box or full cold air intake systems, the gains are quite small.

reflash before i die plz
|
i'm just going to say that at least for my CT intake, which i purchased when it was still comptech, the K&N is not a perfect fit in the airbox lid. there is a little play around the edges, enough that unfiltered air would probably pass through vs the size of the foam filter that comes with it, and that fits perfectly.
i used weather seal to close up the sides when i used the K&N board.
