in the most simplest of concepts, it increases the plenum of air

some are designed to work as a spiral for the air coming in making it denser which is a plus, but without continuing that design into the engine it is negated by time the air goes into the larger plenum on the manifold itself. In essence, those who don't port match to the tb and through the runners of the manifold wont see any benefit of those.

For your purposes the tb spacer is just going to allow the air to build up density a lil more, and longer before entering the plenum.

To increase the effect of the TB spacer, you could do the coolant bypass mod, which blocks off the coolant line passing near the TB. This would decrease the intake temp. a little more.

I would only do this if you live in a warmer climate, since the coolant keeps the TB plate from freezing up in the winter.
