Harder to shift gears at High RPMs!!!

Hello All,

I am a noobie so let the hazing begin, anyways I have a 6sp 05 TSeXeS, no mods yet just got the car. I am wondering if anybody else has a problem shifting while at high rpm's(meaning before redline) or while vtec is engaged(6-7.2k rpms). But while shifting or driving at normal rpms its smooth sailing.
I was thinking about a tranny flush?
Just to be clear, while vtec is engaged the shift feels tighter and not as smooth getting into gear, like if I had a short shifter installed, the car has 46k miles on it.

I am guessing TSX is the first manual car of yours?

Im aware of the differences in vehicles but when this happened to my ranger and my lil sisters mazda 3, it was our clutch plates. hers was torn to bits and eventualy shattered while she was driving, mine had come loose somehow. something to look into.

Sound like the clutch, but could be a low fluid level in the resevor, or a bad clutch master cylinder. Try checking all the fluid levels and go from there.

Yes! This happens to me too. Especially shifting from 1st to 2nd...

My old Lude did that when accelerating quickly and shifting into 3rd and 5th...pretty sure it was the syncros...but of course it had 160K miles on it so hopefully this is not be your issue.

Tranny Flush first then have clutch checked.

I read somewhere on this forum that flushing it then putting in a higher quality fluid makes a big difference (like GM Synchromesh or Redline)... idk if it is true though...

I gotta ask...

are you sure your foot is pushing down far enough? Or under acceleration are you barely pushing it to the engage/disengage point? Gotta look at the simple things first before scaring the guy about syncs dying on such a young automobile.

Do the drain and refill on the tranny, get some brake fluid for the reservoir, bleed it and refill. Be conscious with your foot if it is your first manual. Report back

This is not my 1st manual car, I had civics, interga that where stick, most of the people I know all have manuals cars.

It does not grind at all even while trying to shift at high rpms(just tighter),I brought it to the dealer and had one of the techs check it out and he reported feeling that "while at high rpms it was harder and tighter to shift into a higher gear". So what they suggested was to change the clutch fluid and that didnt stop the problem. So now they what me to spend around 2grand for transmission work(meaning they dont know what the problem is either lol). I told them I will hold off on that.

I will have my tranny flush done at my next oil change which is coming up soon. Then if that doesnt solve the issue I am having. I will move up the list to see what the problem really is.

My old civic was manual and it was pretty hard to shift gears at high rpms. i always thought that it was just the car and the short shifter that someone installed before I bought it..... Maybe, I was wrong?

I had a 98 civic with a short shifter and it was kinda of tight getting into gears, but thats what you should expect with a car with a short shifter installed. But man was that civic fun to drive, loved it. Until someday a drunk driver crash into me at a stop light.

I couldnt stand my 00 Civic EX..... It was sloooooow, had no TQ whatsoever, seats sucked, driving with AC required patence, and that stupid short shifter gave me elbow pain.... Boy am I glad that I sold it and moved on to TSX. I kinda wanted to swap K24 into that civic first, but then I was like meh....

Let me know what you find out, I have the exact same issue. I believe mine is the clutch though, because I hear the throw out bearing squeal, and can tell it is worn out.

I changed my tranny fluid with Honda genuine oil. Still have same issue. I need to go with a new clutch setup and I bet that's the fix!

Anyone run Exedy stage 1 clutch and exedy lightweight flywheel from rsx-s??

EDIT: by the way, I have 125k on mine.
