Is your 6MT Clutch high or low?
Hi,
My 05 TSX 6MT has around 600 miles on it. My friend tried it today and commented that the clutch is very high (compare to his 98 Accord 5MT).
The contact point is around 75% clutch release. How about yours? Comment?

Clutch throw is way too long on TSX. Acura got it way wrong, especially when you consider how good the 6speed gearbox is. Between the long throw and the Drive by Wire throttle, the TSX can be difficult to get smooth spirited shifts without some getting used to. I see people selling short shift kits for TSX. I don't understand it, the TSX shifter is slicker than anything and short enough. What we need is a short throw clutch mod. I already asked Comptech about it but they are not interested in.

Yeah i feel that the clutch is too high ... i would like it to catch like an inch off the floor. Why does everyone comment how great the 6MT gearbox is? I think it sucks. 2nd gear is a bitch to get into. I have to almost force it in. 6th is also. I hate to see what other gear boxes are like if this is supposed to be good.

Huu Huu..... I thought the high clutch is only my problem.....
I have hard time to get into 2nd too. My feeling is the 1st and 2nd gear ratio is kind of far away. All 2->3, 3->4, 4->5, 5->6 are ok IMO.
How about the RPM? What range do you keep your RPM at? It is 2000-3000 for me. Try not to go over 3000 at this moment.

my only complaint would be how touchy 1st gear is. Starting out from a full stop, or cruising through a parking lot in 1st (if there are speed bumps or something ahead), takes a level of finesse I haven't encountered in other MT cars. Maybe it's the drive-by-wire thing. Once I'm out of 1st, I can shift with no problems.

Second gear is a bitch because of the long clutch throw. Try pushing the clutch down further, almost to the floor, when going from first to second and you will see it will work. Mine has the same problem, but it's because we expect normal clutch throw and don't push the clutch down far enough.
Try it. I don't like it myself, but it's really more of a clutch throw issue than the gearbox. If you put that gearbox in a car with a normal clutch, it is awesome. Also some guys have had 2nd gear synchros go out but I'm pretty sure the problem is that the weird clutch causes guys to not go down far enough which wears out the second gear synchro.

I've just tested, on my 6MT, the clutch starts to bite at 1 inch off the floor. I'm on level ground, stopped. I give some gas to 1500rpm and let the clutch out slowly til the car starts to move. Why don't you guys try the same and see what you get?
BTW, do you all have a creaky clutch pedal? Mine did and I had the clutch master cylinder changed under warranty. My 2nd gear does not grind anymore.

yup, definitely the clutch throw is way too looooong. and the gas pedal has a slack(slight play). Now I wonder if you can adjust the clutch pedal travel like the integras.

I would say it is a bit high. My friends who tried to drive my car could not finesse it because the clutch catches pretty high then I always tell them its because I'm a better driver

Not good as Integra's, both the clutch and shifter. Also the throttle sucks. Mechanical over wire.

My clutch catches very high as well but once you get used to it, the overall feel of the gearbox and clutch combanation is better in my o6 tsx then in the rsx type s

Aren't you supposed to push the clutch in all the way when shifting? I've always felt like if I didn't do that I just got lucky.
It feels just right to me, but then again I've only driven Honda/Acura MTs, with the exception of a Subie - which does seem to have a shorter throw.

you don't have to push the clutch all the way, even half way is good enough. Or if you want you can just shift without using the clutch, as long as you are at the right RPM.

I doubt someone out there can do anything about how long the clutch throw is. this is the same problem that BMW's have, and the only fix they've come up with is a clutch stopper.
