2nd gear engagement during "spirited driving"

has anyone else noticed that when you're driving fast, or really trying to accelerate that it's very difficult or damn near impossible to power shift from first to second gear

I've owned MANY cars and this is one that really seems like it does not want to power shift into second, it's almost like there is a gate that's stopping me from shifting fast

thoughts...

It's a Feature in the TSX. The problem is that the clutch throw is very long and the drive by wire throttle is not mapped correctly. You have to make sure you have a little pressure on the throttle when upshifting. If you take your foot completely off the throttle, the car will stumble during the upshift. Keep some throttle and release the clutch a little slower. You will be able to get better. Also, you have tow depress the clutch almost to the floor especially when going from first to second.

Good luck.

Powershift, as in flat shifting (shifting while holding WOT)?

I've shifted fast enough that the wheel still spins when I release the clutch. How fast are you trying to shift? You might be beating the triple cone synchros.

Does the TSX's 6MT have triple cone syncros for 2nd gear? If so, it "should" be fine taking a lot of abuse, including powershifting.

I too have had many MT cars, and this TSX definitely feels weird. Haven't tried powershifting it yet, but on regular quick 1-2 shifts, the car does feel pretty weak.

I may be beating them, but my old S2k never had this problem, it's sad...such a similar tranny feel and yet so far away

Triple cones make the shift smooth, but as a result, you can shift faster than the synchros can speed up your 2nd gear. The S2k should have a higher spec gearbox that can tolerate more abuse in order to be a proper roadster.

That's exactly right, you have to stay in the throttle some to get the 1-2 shift quickly and you're better off not popping the clutch as much as it causes the DBW to stumble. It's not hard to shift the TSX quickly, just takes fiddling.

usually powershifting is shifting either without taking your foot off the gas at all or at least leaving it on partially and just slamming the car into the next gear and using no clutch, although sometimes you have to fiddle with it a little to get it right

usually from 1-2 or 3-4, straight down and hammering it into gear

its' somewhat difficult in new cars with synchro's but if you ever drive a dogbox race trans it's TONS of fun

Damn straight it does..if you miss the shift. You are sliding on the synchros. If you get it just right the wear is minimal but if you miss, and it's easy to do so, you can kill synchros and eventually gears. I don't know what the point of it is myself. a million years of combined engineering education have put clutches in every manual in the world but a few guys somehow know better than all the PhDs in the automotive world. Not to mention, Hurley Haywood, Rod Millen, Fangio, Shumacher, Senna, Gordon and every other guy that races uses the clutch if it's available? I just don't know sometimes.
