2nd gear crunch, how bad before Acura fixes it?

Awright, my car has 10,000 miles now and the 2nd gear is getting rougher. It's still not horrible and it works, its just rough and sometimes grinds a bit going into second. Has anyone had this addressed by Acura before the 2nd gear failed completely. I know it's not normal because the car didn't do it when new and it didn't start happening until after appx. 5000 miles.

You are talking about the notchy 2nd gear, correct? It is a very common problem, i believe, and it should get better over time. It happens to me once in a blue moon, but it has gotten better ever since i change my tranny oil.

Also, i heard that we get this notchy feeling is because of a 'beefed'-up second gear syncro. So i don't know whether the Honda engineer intended this to occur...

This is a fairly common problem on the RSX's too. Acura issued a TSB over a year ago on how to fix it. I think it required replacing the 5th or 6th gears and/or synchros. Yeah, nothing like what you would have expected it to be.

Yes, I was referring to the 2nd gear getting harder to engage smoothly and sometimes crunching. Was the TSX for TSX or RSX? Do you have a link to it?

Thanks,

Ignacio

A word of advice: take it to a dealer and have the problem written up. If you don't complain now, and then something breaks, the regional warranty person can claim that it was abuse or some other crap.

If you complain now, the dealer would have to document it, even if they do nothing to service it. If it doesn't get fixed, complain agian in three months and document it again. I know it can be a pain to specnd the time doing this, and as others have siad *should* not be an issue in the future, but you never know when your documenting this problem to them can save your butt.

Thanks, I'll remember that. Now I have new issues. There is morse code coming from my radio, it sounds like the right tweeter and more ^(&^(*& rattles. Damn, I hate rattles. I bought the TSX for supposed refinement and quality over raw power. Now I got a slow car that rattles!

I had the grind before. Turns out that I was shifting from 1-2, I pulling the gear stick too hard to the left as well. Now I have adjusted to pulling it straight down, no more grind.

Once in a while I still pull it left and down when going 1-2, and the grind is still there. But when pulling straight down, it's sweet as!
