With all the popular options, these cars are running $35k. Nobody finishes teset driving these cars and say "Hey look at this TSX it is so fast". I would bet money that more than 50% of TSX owners have owned an Accord/Civic/Integra/RSX in the past, and I'm not one of them.

Bottom line, I'm happy with the TSX, but I think Acura can dominate this segment by upping the performance/quality even with a price increase.
I tend to disagree...I mean yea, everyone could use some extra hp, or torque or frills. But what Acura has to consider is that they don't compete with there own sales for the TL. The car you are describing (250+ horsepower w/ all the goodies) is basically the TL, which they already sell for ~$6,000 more, and IMO is great competition for the G35, etc.

The TSX is a niche market between the RSX and the TL, and I think Acura has done a great job of market placement without canibalizing TL sales. I find those that are not satisfied with the TSX are really looking for the TL or its competitors, but don't want to spend the extra mooolaaa. Am I totally off base here?

I don't think you're off base at all... That's what I'd say if people want more power in the TSX... Once you add the V6 and a couple of other toys, you essentially end up with a TL...so might as well get that. Can't really keep the body of the TSX cause the v6 more than likely won't fit and it'll make the TSX waaay to heavy.

The TSX would not be way too heavy with a V6, but it would hurt handling. The TL is 200 lb more than the TSX and the reason? V6. Anyway the point of my original post was that if you could get the TSX with a V6 for only $2000 more then most people would do that.

Basically I agree -- but I think the weight difference has to involve more than that, especially the fact that the TL is a bigger car. Not a lot bigger, but enough for that to make a significant weight difference. Plus, stuff like power passenger seat, which does add some weight.

OK, about the size difference, let's get quasi-scientific. (Very "quasi.")

If you multiply the length x width x height of each car (I know that we're not really dealing with "volumes," but still this is a roughly meaningful index), the TL comes out 5.5% larger. What's 5.5% of the TSX's weight? 178 pounds.

Which is pretty close to the actual number (although less). I think we can say that most of the weight difference is due simply to the TL's being a larger car.

I can't wait for PK to point out the flaws in my methodology.

Well..the TL is larger...and I'm sure the engine compartment is biger than the TSX enough so to fit a V6....I still doubt a V6 will fit in the TSX...if it does, I do not want to be the person to work on the engine...

I'm driving an Accord CL7 EuroR in Singapore. Got my baby for about 15 months now.. absolutely love her a lot. Already running for abt 53,000 km. Brought her for tracking at Malaysia F1 Sepang international track a few times and after changing the shocks, the car's handling is beautiful! It's big and heavy, but turns very well on the track. It's slower than many turbo cars, but I just love the handling and the roar of my vtec.

Not a problem, I was kidding anyhow...plus for what its worth, I don't quite own a TSX anyway...YET. This site is a major part of my research. I figured 2000 opinions is better than some guy from C&D or Edmunds.
