A solution to hot/cold shift knobs - Shift socks
Hey guys. Ever since I got the Maven Shift Knob, I've experienced how hot it can get, and sometimes how cold it can get. So I searched online and found a leather shift knob cover for 21 dollars. I'm like no, too expensive. So I found an alternative and it was this for 3 dollars shipped:
Amazon.com: iSock Gray Beanie Cap / Sock for Apple iPod Nano, Photo, Video, Microsoft Zune or MP3 Players, Universal fit manufactured by Insten: Electronics
I'm not trying to promote this product or anything, just thought it might be useful to some who doesn't want to burn their hands with hot shift knobs.
I know it might look weird, but it's only going to be used under extreme cases. It's not like it's always going to be on.

That's one heck of an idea. I think I still have the shift pattern burnt into my right palm!

I just use a sunglass bag, but that looks like a neat idea. Thanks for the heads-up!

I guess that was quick, easy & it works but it looks lame..
What about something that looks better & is black in color so it doesn't stand out?
Sew up a black leather or leatherette cover?
Something that fits tighter.. black stretchy spandex?!!, black neoprene (wet suit material)?? Just throwing out ideas..
Personally a nice black leather shift knob is my preference..

They do sell a leather one but it's over 20 dollars. And I don't know the first thing to sewing so if I was to take a leather material and sew it, it would just look horrible.
I did wanted black but they don't come in black. So I settled with gray since it's the closest thing to my interior.
It's much harder to find shift knob covers because of it's size. Try finding black neoprene, leather, or stretchy materials that are in the shape of the shift knob. Some suggested that you can use the Spoon reservoir cover but it doesn't cover the top.
I know it looks a bit lame but for 3 dollars shipped, I just couldn't resist on this hot/cold shift knob solution.

i usually...
- grab a sweater or shirt in my backseat and cover it
- if my passenger is a male...ask him if hes man enough to handle the heat and when they agree (usually they do...) hold his hand on there while he yells as his hand absorbs the heat...and then he sucker punches me but at least its not hot anymore....
- shift with my fingers
- shift in lightspeed mode...0.00000000000001 seconds into gear

Damn, people, man up.
I've had a Maven for over two years, a Skunk2 before that, and live in CT where the climate runs the gamut from 95+ degrees to -15 at times... and I've never once wished, "Damn, I wish I put a doiley on my shift knob".
Weak.

This morning I wrestled a bear naked and then ate it for breakfast with Tobasco sauce as the only seasoning.
