New Tires
My 2004 has about 35,000 miles and the original tires look fine but I have read in several places recently that you should replace tires at 6 years regardless of remaining tread. They will be 6 years in December.Anyone have recommendations on tires they have had good luck with as replacements. Not too worried about winter weather as we usually leave it home during any major weather problems. Most mileage is around town at moderate speeds(except when my daughter is home from school and uses it )

First off, welcome to the club!! Your post is a wee bit vague, but lets see what we can offer... Where are you from, hence what kind of "weather problems" are you possibly looking at?? Are they winter or summer tires or even all season? If they are pure winter tires, check the tread depth, anything 4 mm (1/4 inch) upwards should be good for the season, depending on the amount of snow you might be facing.. if the are summer tires and you are in an area looking at some frost/freezing rain, they too should be ok, but you have to adjust your driving to the circumstances. If they are all seasons, get rid of them! They are not the best for either season. If your daughter tears around town, it'll put your heart at rest to know she's riding safely!! But whatever you do, come spring, get some new sneakers for your car.

p.s. post some pix of your car, any plans on modding her, or done any modding yet??

6 years is more of a rule of thumb, it all depends on how the tires look... their condition. i.e. cracks on tire thread, cracks on the rubber in sidewall and overall condition of the tire.
In any event, i have General Altimax HP, they have a 55,000 mile warranty and only cost 94 bucks a pop. They look great and handle much better than OE tires.

Personally, if you got the cash I would say go ahead and replace them. There are few things (to me) as exciting as new tires
If you do end up wanting/needing new tires, I highly recommend the Michelin Primacy MXV4. Got mine on Tirerack on sale for 119/each. Looks like the price went up, but there is now a 70 rebate.

I used to sell tires and I would tell people that all the time. Personally I would go till they are bald just as long they are not cracking or loosing air, and don't look beat up.

Did you mount the tires yourself after you received them from tirerack? Or did you ask a shop to do it?
Cheers,
Jim

Those Primacy's are a lower performance tire than the terrible OEM Michelin Pilot MXM4's that come on the TSX.
- low performance, quiet, smooth riding, compromise, all-season tire
- rock hard (UTQG 620)
- passive tread pattern
They will last forever but do not mistake these tires for a performance tire or for use in snow.
There are way better tires out there. Even in the stock size.
See my signature for what I did.

Curious if you have ridden on these tires or are you just looking at the stats? Of course they are not a performance tires hence the Grand Touring description. While I don't autocross, I am pretty impressed at how well they stick in aggressive cornering. But, as a GRAND TOURER they are an excellent tire. They are quiet, smooth, comfy, and they are not rock hard, even with the 45PSI (50 max) I have in them. Can't speak to snow yet, but I understand they are not snow tires and won't be amazing, but should be adequate.
They are highly rated tires, both from consumers and from Tire Rack also. If you do need a good COMPROMISE tire, I would put it at the top of your list.
And to TSX_ne I had these mounted by a friend who works at a local Firestone who only charged me $20

No worries Ryan,
I just wanted to qualify your recommendation with some background info & we seem to agree.
I haven't driven the Primacy's but our TSX has the OEM Pilot MXM4's on it which are a higher performance tire than the Primacy's.
IMO, the Pilot MXM4's (which had 30,000miles on them) were terrible. Too hard rubber compound, so they slid around & very soft sidewalls which felt mushy. I can't imagine the Primacy's.
I dumped the MXM4's as soon as I found a larger wheel that I liked & went with larger BF Goodrichs'.
Btw, the UTQG rating refers to the hardness of the rubber compound in the tire tread. The Primacy UTQG 620 is a really high rating.
This means the tire rubber compound is very hard which gives the tire very poor traction & poor performance in all conditions but it will last a long time. That's the performance vs. longevity tradeoff.
You will notice that soft winter tires have no UTQG rating listed & for very high performance tires the UTQG rating is 100 or less.
Good tire discussion....Joe

Good discussion indeed. Sorry to the OP that this has turned into a battle over just one tire brand.
My understanding of the UTQG was the amount of tread, not the hardness ofi t. Could be wrong. Either way, I would still have to disagree that these tires are "poor traction & poor performance in all conditions." I have hit some aggressive turns at higher speeds and been very impressed so far at how they stick. I would consider these a step up from the OEM tire, not down.
I guess just another example of to each their own
