Dear Acura/Honda, Please make it harder to change the oil and oil filter on your cars. I did not find it difficult enough and would appreciate it if you would weld a new cross-member conviently in the way of the oil filter. Also I would like you to make harder to remove splash guards and move the maintenance hatch away from the oil plug. Thanks.

I just did an oil change on our TSX this w/end.
I removed the plastic access door to the oil drain plug long ago & it will never go back on.
With that off, the oil drains fine.
The real PITA is the oil filter. It's tight to get access to it.
I always loosen the oil filter 1st before draining the oil.
If you can't get the filter loose & you've already drained the oil into a dirty drain pan, you just wasted 5L of oil.
Draining the oil filter once it is really loose is the problem.
I find that taking off the entire plastic under shield is a pain & it doesn't really make things easier.
I use tin foil to build a funnel & drain away from the plastic shield but it still drains all over the rear of the engine & on the axle shaft.
There is also no good place to punch a hole in the filter to allow it to drain.
My 5.0L Mustang is worse. 2 drain plugs, the front one drains all over the front sway bar.
My Dodge Cummins is easier but it take 3 US gallons (12L) of oil. It takes time to deal with all that used oil.

I hate saying this but to drain the filter without a mess (its a real tight fit but its workable) i built, in short, a oil (beer) bong. I loosen the filter and let in drop into the funnel while the oil drains, no mess due to the hose snaking down to a oil catch pan. my PITA is getting the ratchet with oil filter attachment up in the right position. Previous owner removed the access panel but coming form the front of the car, its at an awkward angle for me. I used to have a lift for my vehicles but katrina took that away from me. I dont get as dirty changing the oil in this car (my rangers filter pointed straight down) but i seem to have to work harder to get it done.

My first oil change ever when i got my car, he dealership put the oil filter so tight, the strap wrench deal squeezed the filter to the point where it broke the oil filter and drained oil all up in my face, and it didnt even budge. I had to drill a hole through and through and use a massive drill bit to get leverage on both sides to turn it, even then it was quite homosexual. Just picture trying to get both arms to get leverage to the oil filter....

That's the reason I stopped going to the dealer for oil changes! They seem to put the filter on with an impact gun. Hand tight is plenty!
My wife's Ford Edge is the easiest oil change on any car I have ever worked on. I still had to take it in to a shop for the last one though....damn torn rotator cuff.

I have a large pair of Vise-grips with longed curved jaws that are perfect for removing the filter. Add a Fumoto oil drain valve and oil changes are a snap
