OEM lugs sit different than tuner lugs. Tuner lugs are designed for aftermarket rims with the thinner area for the lugs while the OEM lugs will work with the OEM rims since they have a larger area to seat/secure. Their seat is different, you can do a search on it for more info if you want. There is also something you can buy to add on to the bottom of the OEM lug to make it like a tuner lug, kind of like an adapter incase you don't want to buy new lugs all around.
As for the choice it's really up to you on which you like and how much you want to spend. They all do the same thing and are secure to a point but if someone wants to steal your rims then lugs sure won't stop them. It'll make it more inconvenient and most ppl will just go for the easier route though.
How hard were you tightening the lugs? Are you using the proper torque on it because they should not break or strip with the factory specs on torquing the lugs.
