Usually when the compressor goes, it send shards of metal into the system. But usually the compressor starts shedding metal bits long before it finally gives. So by the time the compressor blows, seizes, etc. there's a good bit of metal bits already running through the system. Thats what they meant by contaminating the ac system. These small metal bits and pieces in the condenser coils, lines, evaporator/dryer, all through the system. Even if one purge the lines, there is absolutely no way to fully purge the condenser fully of these metal bits. So in order to save future trouble, all aspects of the ac system must be replaced. I've seen people simply replace the condenser and with-in a few months, their condenser fail again because they did not replace the condenser, evaporator, etc.

Albeit, it cost me $1200 at a local acura mechanic, I was still pissed since i freaking missed the non-powertrain warranty period by 3000 miles.

Damn after I wrote a freaking book, you already posted this.

No warning, no noises, no leaks. A/C has been working fine all summer long here in the Texas heat.

I would wager this is the case for most of us owners of 2004 TSX. There have been more problems it seems for this year but I think most are running just fine with no problems at all.

Is there a drawing for the A/C system in the TSX that we can look at. If there is a filter somewhere it would really reduce the area of replacement, specially considering that the compressor wasnt making any noises and such, that you know of...

Just lookin on acuraoemparts.com and you'll find the diagram. There is no ac filter but there is what is called a drier which is what usually gets dirty

Is there currently a class action suit against Honda for TSX/CRV A/C systems?

Yes, Honda Lawsuit
Sounds like they are just building their case right now. They told me to keep me paperwork and my compressor.

I actually have the same problems on my CPO 04...loose drivers seat, burnt out AT gear lights and a seat heater HI and LO lights. Today it went back the the dealer for the second time for front end vibration. They told me the rim was bent but changing it did not fix anything, and I was out $105 of my own pocket. While the didn't charge me this time, they did not fix it. Didn't even wash and vacuum the car like the invoice said...I'm calling corporate tomorrow and the service manager at Lindsay Acura...
I am not a happy camper especially because I am a hardcore Honda fan. I had a 98 Civic brand new zero problems, then bought a 98 Prelude with 101k miles, and sold it at 178k only because I needed a bigger car, wish I kept her...she was bulletproof.
Update:
The vibration is not as bad, the dealer took apart the calipers and lubed the slides, car doesn't pull anymore either. They took care of the bulbs and the drivers seat too.

my problems have been annoyances more than anything major breaking down.
loose drivers seat - fixed under warranty. *known* problem with seat rails. if you got warranty and your driver's seat moves, take it in and get it fixed.
squeaking/groaning when turning steering wheel - fixed under warranty. dealer replaced entire power steering rack. *known* problem but honda/acura is getting cheap and told dealerships to stop replacing power steering rack. according to dealership shop foreman, tsb expected but none thus far...
peeling clear coat on bumper - fixed under gm's goodwill. my car is cpo'd and its very possible that the previous owner was in a fender bender and got the bumper replaced. dealership had no documentation that the car was in any accident. however, they did acknoweldge that the paint nor clear coat should be peeling on a 1 year old car.
other than those issues, i've had no problems with my car thus far and i enjoy every minute driving it!

Well, I have one more to add to the list. About a week and a half after my AC blew I am getting a vibration during acceleration. It is getting worst. At first I thought it might be motor mounts because it has a vibration at idle sometimes, but after some research it looks like most would say it is the axles.
I haven't fixed the AC yet. It is had to get motivated to drop a grand in parts when it is not hot outside.
