'04 Red Airbag Light

On my out of warranty '04 the red airbag light stays on, so I checked it with a borrowed OBDII reader and found no codes. I guess the OBDII does not look at the airbag/seatbelt system. The seat belts are covered under lifetime warranty and I remember seeing on this forum that someone had a airbag light problem which was caused by a problem in seat belt circuit and therefore was fixed under warranty. My question is how do I find out which component is causing the light? I would like to know before I put it in the hands of the dealer. The problem may be on the passenger side as I remember an occasional red light a year back which would go off when passenger moved around. But, I may not be remembering this correctly. Anyone have a suggestion about how to find out whats causing light. Thanks, Chuck

I think the restraint system - belts and bags - is warranted for 8/80. Check your owner's manual.

"Restraint System" is not used in manual. What it says is "Acura will repair or replace, at its option, any Acura seat belt component that fails to function properly during normal use. This includes all parts and labor." So, key word is component. What does Acura/dealer include under this word? As I live 120 miles from dealer I was hoping to get info. from members who have had experience with the airbag/seatbelt system so that I will be armed with a little more knowledge when I make my dealer visit. Its most likely the seat belt sensor. Take it in, and it will be repaired for free. Happened to mine. Happened to my 04 near the end of last year.

Thanks. Also, wife just told me (it's her car) that the driver seat belt not on tone has not been working for a while. Also the passenger seat belt tone failed first. Looks like more evidence the sensor(s) are bad. Chuck

Talked to a close by Honda dealer. He also said that most of the time the problem is the seat belt sensor and it is covered. However, they cannot do warranty work on Acura. So, I need to make that 120 mi. trip and arrange to leave the car. Chuck
