I would like to dispell that this only happens to AT, I bought my '09 TSX MT in May and have noticed pinging in mid gear acceleration, have used only 91 octane and have owned an 1st gen for 4 years prior with no issues with this. I will call and log with Acura as well

you guys are scaring me with this, what is it that you think that is happening if we are all using the recomended fuel? usualy its caused by using cheapass gas, but if its not then it has to be mechanical in nature no? if that is the case should it not be covered by warranty? alot of you are saying that your running the 94 octane fuel, i dont know if you have read any recent articles on this but our engines are tuned to 91 octane, that should suffice to keep the knock sensor happy, using 94 octane fuel just burns piston rings faster as it has a higher burn temp, just some info, i ran 91 in my teg for the longest time as it was tuned to 94 but changed it as it was to hot for the rings to take, so back i went to 91 and its all good, ill be running 91 in my TSX

Update on this, I recieved a call from Customer Service as they wanted more info about the pinging issue. They said when there is a fix they will let me know. So they obviously have a list of affected cars and may be getting ready to create a campaign to do the fix, which entails an ECU reprogram and the addition of a new knock sensor as was applied to the Euro Accord in Austrailia.

After testing for a week I can say that while not all "ping" noise is eliminated it is far less severe when slowly jogging from gear to gear. Under heavy acceleration there was very little pinging so this has not changed. I understand that you will always have some noise because for the knock sensor to function it has to actually sense the noise and then adjust the timing accordingly. All in all its a satisfactory fix with no perceptible performance loss

Damn, now I'm worried that a satellite is gonna fall from space and squish my ass. Usually, for me, if something can go wrong it does. Oh yea, that’s right, had to have the windshield replaced after only 3k miles.
I bought my 09' back in Oct. of 08', have 14k+ miles on it, use nothing but 91 and above (mostly 92, occasionally, 93) and I redline the bi-atch in 1st thru 3rd whenever I'm alone in the car. I’m getting my second dealer oil change this weekend.
Here’s proof I’m a dumbarss sometimes…once, before I knew more about the paddle shifters and S mode I inadvertently knocked it in S mode and had it in 4th. It wasn’t until after I was wondering why it was revving so high and had that distinct low gear slow down effect did I realize it. Most of the time, if you saw me you'd think I just robbed a bank and was in the process of getting away. Now I paddle shift in S mode more frequently, and I “down” paddle shift in regular D mode all the time. I just wish it had the same spirit I did. Oh well, I wanted a reliable commuter that got good MPGs so I won’t complain it’s not really fast enough for me.
My last ride taught me a lesson. And that is - Drive it like you stole it. At least until the warrantee is up.
I will definately stay tuned to this thread and I really hope they (Acura) works this out for the rest of you. I've been on that end of the shite stick before and I know, it sux.

Can anybody do a clip when the engine is pinging? I want to buy CU2 and I am afraid of it. I cannot test it, I have to order it at "blind". I think Honda has no TSB yet in EU. Thank you very much.

No need really the fix is now available - check it out and if needed they will fix it as most of the CU2 owner in AUS have already had their cars fixed by their dealers

And you have Acuras or Hondas in AUS?
And is the problem solved? I red that sometimes it helps only a bit (80-90%) but the pinging is still there.

I have an 09 TSX and run 87 octain like my dealer advised. 7K miles and no issues at all. My dealer also told me that if knocking occures there is a fix that dealers have for that problem. This was told to me last week so the fix may be new to some dealers. Acura also has made the statement that the 2.4 09/10 TSX is the only Acura to date that can run on 87 octain with no issues. Some cars are affected and some are not.
