Wheel sizing question
hey, im new to the forum. i just picked up a 2010 tsx and im ready for wheels and suspension. im debating 19's or 20's with H&R sport springs. Would the 20" wheels fit with springs? or would 19's be more reasonable?

Our car with 20s the wheels don't get much bigger, but you're running a lot larger difference between stock diameter and your current diameter. which you render your mpg meter, and odometer inaccurate at that point because it was made for a certain diameter wheel

^um no.
the bigger the rim gets, the smaller the tire gets.
the rim/tire combo's overall diameter always stays the same.
you can run 19's, 20's, whatever it will all fit the same.
the diameter of the rim makes zero difference on fitment if
you're talking 19's or 20's on a TSX. you simply get a lower
profile tire if you get a larger rim. the width and the offset
are what you need to be looking at to see if it'll fit or not.

yeah but running 19's with a 35 mm tire is some thing like .85 inches in diameter larger then the stock wheel. so to run a 20 with a 35 mm tire would be even larger.. which would throw off the accuracy.. In addition to run a 30 mm tire or thinner would be ridiculous

um, what are you talking about a 35mm tire?
when a tire is say 235/35/19, the 35 is not mm's.
it is the aspect ratio. a percentage of size based upon the
width of the tire tread, which is the first number.
let me use my truck as an example for you:
stock is 245/65/17 and now I have 275/45/20 and the overall
diameter of the tire is nearly exact to stock. you can run 20's
on your TSX and have the overall diameter be the same as stock
with no issues as long as you choose the right tire.

235/35/19
is 35 not mm? for the thicknes from rim to edge?
hmph guess you learn something new everyday.
Good to know..
all though I still think were talking about the same thing
and I was saying a 30 tire on a 20 rim is too thin, and a 35 on a 19 rim is larger then stock diameter

no. it does not mean mm.
and 35 means nothing on its own. it's simply a percentage
of the width of the tire.
so a 235/35 will be taller/larger than a 215/35.

like he said that will fit
I had 19x8 +48 and now i have 19 x 8 +32 they both fit on the car well. all though the +32 mostly fits because of the negative camber from being lowered.
Thanks for the information mm

I read elsewhere on here that the change in overall diameter should stay within +/- 2%. If that's the case, and my math is right, the 225/50r17 has an overall diameter of 25.86" (rounded up) so...technically, if you go by the 2% rule that allows only .52" taller.
I'm beginning to doubt that 2% rule though. I was told almost as much as an inch or more taller would work by a reputable wheel & tire dealer locally. Of course they are trying to make a sale so......
Here's a question, why can't we reset the computer for the new tire size. I did it when I installed taller tires on my truck. Actually, I took it to the dealer and they did it for me.
