I just changed my oil at 105k this past weekend. I usually change at 5k mile intervals. My Blackstone oil report at 100k was fine so I didn't save any oil before it went into the pan this time. After letting the car drain for an hour, I came back and found I only drained about 3 quarts. I usually drain just over 4 quarts. There are no oil stains on my garage floor, my exhaust looks clean, and the car has been running fine. The only difference was that my last fill was with Valvoline Synblend 5W-30 for high mileage vehicles. It supposedly has additives to help preserve the seals. I refilled with 4.6 quarts of Castrol GTX high mileage (my usual oil, there just happened to be a sale on the Valvoline last time) I'm not panicked unless my next change repeats this amount of oil loss. I read elsewhere that this may not be an excessive amount of loss, but it is new to me. If it is the seals that are going bad, what else happens besides just needing to add oil periodically?
