engine sludge questions

hey guys. I was checking out my mothers car the other day and i added some oil into it. i realized upon opening the oil cap there was a yelowish sludge around the cap area as well as black build up or sludge inside. I didnt remove the VC yet but I am going to replace her VC gasket this weekend. I wanted to know how I could clean it up can i just wipe out the crud in there and do an oil change say like kinda back to back like 1000 miles apart to kinda clean it's self out.

I've herd about seafoam and what not but never used it before. is there anything else i could look into. I dont want to fill my block up with smaoke with seafoam my neighbors wouldnt like that lol.

Its a 2000 hyundai elantra comming up on 200k. she prob only puts about 50 miles a week on it if that. but i wanna keep it going.

Thanks

Might be blow by from worn piston rings, internal coolant leak, PVC valve

is there any way to clean it out should i try seafoam or just remove what i can do an oil change and keep an eye on it.

I was thinking of having the head gasket done just because the car has a shit load miles on it and se if they will hot tank the head and do a valve adjustment as well.

You can try the seafoam and see if that helps, it will probably work pretty good but it's probably going to come back if the problem isn't fixed. We've had gm's at the shop with that crap caked on and I mean the stuff was like pudding thick all in the valve covers, and under the lower intakes. Cleaned everything out and they would run like champs. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

I believe it's easy. Add to oil and let car run for I think 10 minutes( directions are on bottle) and drain oil/ change filter

xxJDxx can only hope to improve, or face mass condemn.

cheapest bet would be to run some seafoam as suggested and then switch to mobil1. Does an amazing job of cleaning up sludge after an oil change or two...
