Ipod stolen from car while in dealerships possession
I took my car in for a check engine light on a Monday morning. Picked up the car today and first thing I noticed when I got in the car was that my ipod was gone.
I spoke with my agent that was helping me and he checked with the Tech. Tech verifies that he saw the ipod in the car when he did the diagnosis. My agent basically tells me that "it's the same as if your radio gets stolen".
After speaking to the Fixed Operations Manager (he told me there's no one higher) and basically getting the shaft - there's nothing they can do because they are not liable, I decide to file a police report so that I have a record of the theft.
I remember reading about some sort of Acura Customer Service line or address that people would send stuff to. Do I even have any chance? What pisses me off was the way I was treated and then they tried to put it on me - because I left the ipod in the car.
This was at David McDavid Acura in Plano btw.
Yeah I know I was stupid for leaving it in there, I've done it many times and never had a problem. Just slipped my mind (it was like 6AM in the morning).

DAng, that sucks man. My guess is if someone from the dealership didn't take it, then they just left your car unlocked during the day. I always tell my advisor to put "lock the doors after completion" on the service invoice for the tech. Before I use to do that I would often find my car sitting there unlocked.

Yeah, I kind of figured it was probably the car wash guys. Anything I can do? Is there some sort of Customer Relations # or email that I can send? The guy that was supposedly the head honcho was the "Field Operations Manager" but I wasn't sure if there was someone above him that I could go to.
Funny thing was I was actually thinking about trading my car in for a TL...but there's no way I would do anything at that dealership ever again. He basically told me that they could care less if people stole, not their problem.

Find out the name of the owner of the dealership then send them a letter.
You can also go to the dealerrater website and post your views about the dealer

just don't stop, dealers do not want bad reviews or complaints, as long as you keep it up, they'll do anything to shut you up. I've seen them basically get down on their knees for people/...

Yeah, I just called the GM - Renee Huff and left her a message "regarding a concern I had at your dealership yesterday". I'll see what she has to say. If she's not going to do anything, I'm going to escalate further. I was thinking about contacting the Dallas Morning News, I have a buddy that works there as a journalist in the off chance that they've been writing something about this at all.

I Told The Service Writer To Let The Tech Know That I Don't Want My Car Going To The Detail Dept.

I know there is the "trust" factor with the dealership, but they seriously arent' liable for goods left in the car. It's like when you park at a parking garage, they aren't responsible for lost or stolen items. Even though you are paying to park there "securely." I take out everything important before I leave my car for a service, just out of habit.
Good luck with gettin ur ipod back somehow.

Good news! They are going to reimburse me in the form of American Express cards for my troubles. After speaking with the GM, she noted that she really respected the way I approached the situation, I did not yell or scream but asked good questions and was rational. She said that really played into her decision to help me out. And yes, lesson learned.
